OK, found the problem. It's the fglrx driver. Switched to the ati driver 
and things are back to normal. I guess this card is now supported by the 
ati driver (didn't used to.)

The graphics card is,
1002:5460 ATI Technologies Inc M22 [Radeon Mobility M300]
