Hello, I ran 'chmod -R o-rwx .*' in /root and all permissions in /var and /tmp got messed up (good luck I cancelled it before it could do more damage). I manually fixed some permissions so I could at least have a working environment to fix everything, but I don't know what the permissions should be in most files...
Is there a way to restore all the permissions in /var? At least on those files that are installed by the package manager; I think I can just delete the other files and they'll be created again by their programs. If there's not, my plan B is to create a chrooted environment containing all the same packages as my main installation and copy the /var tree from the chroot. Of course this is not very practical, but seems a better choice than reinstalling (at least ATM). Is there a reason why this may not be a good idea? (apart from the fact that it may take a few hours...)
