There is a possibility to maximize or minimize a window from CLI, (command which will tell to GNOME or KDE to maximize/minimize a given window similar to Ctrl+F10/F5).
Or to tell to a window manager the width and the height, to resize the window, and move it into a given (X,Y) position.
