Not quite. If you take a bunch of WAV files and burn a regular data CD with them, that won't work. The on-disk format of an audio CD is different from a data CD. But, the format of the actual audio on the CD is the same as a 16-bit, 44.1 kHz, stereo WAV file -- both are uncompressed bitstreams. So you need to start with files in that format.

I think K3b will do the conversion from mp3 "on the fly," but I'm not certain about that. It's been a while. If not, you can use sox, mpg321, or lame to convert the files to WAV first.
