debian now uses xorg. the config file is /etc/X11/xorg.conf and is
very similar to previous X config files.

so keep a copy of the working Xf86Config file from your old install
just in case you have problems. It may be helpful to see what the old
settings were. As a general rule, if it worked in sarge (3.1) it will
work in etch (4.0) without trouble. This assumes the hardware is not
too exotic.   

If it doesn't work, for some reason, the folks onthis list can
definitely help, provided you give good information.
