When you open the file in vim, type:
:set fileformat
It will probably report:
fileformat=dos
Then type
:set fileformat=unix
When you write the file, the <CR><NL> dos style line terminators
will be replaced by <CR> only.
I suppose you mistyped "<LF> only".
