It probably is through the chain of dependencies somehow pecular to
the original poster's installation.

But that is secpanel not cpanel. Try this one instead.

  http://packages.debian.org/oldstable/x11/cpanel

I just tried a test installation of cpanel on my oldstable Sarge
machine (cpanel is only available in Sarge) and I did not see it
wanting to removing my installed postfix. Therefore I can't recreate
the problem.

  Inst rxvt-ml (1:2.6.4-6.2 Debian AMD64 archive:3.1r6/oldstable)
  Inst libtabe2 (0.2.5+cvs20030523-1 Debian AMD64 archive:3.1r6/oldstable)
  Inst xcin (2.5.2.99.pre2+cvs20030224-1 Debian AMD64 archive:3.1r6/oldstable)
  Inst xfonts-intl-chinese (1.2.1-3 Debian AMD64 archive:3.1r6/oldstable)
  Inst cpanel (0.4.0-1 Debian AMD64 archive:3.1r6/oldstable)
  Conf rxvt-ml (1:2.6.4-6.2 Debian AMD64 archive:3.1r6/oldstable)
  Conf libtabe2 (0.2.5+cvs20030523-1 Debian AMD64 archive:3.1r6/oldstable)
  Conf xcin (2.5.2.99.pre2+cvs20030224-1 Debian AMD64 archive:3.1r6/oldstable)
  Conf xfonts-intl-chinese (1.2.1-3 Debian AMD64 archive:3.1r6/oldstable)
  Conf cpanel (0.4.0-1 Debian AMD64 archive:3.1r6/oldstable)

Looks okay to me.

Chuck, please post the result of the following command.

  apt-get install -s cpanel

Bob
