The least I would want to do, is increase the volume of messages by subscribing to mailing lists that I am not interested at all, and only post once in a year, or so. And what is the problem anyway? So things were getting little loose, but everybody should have gotten the point by now. A clearly defined policy for a mailing list is all good, but no need to go crazy about the issue.
