No, the idea is to get a quick look at programs you started after the machine booted and they are still running somewhere in windows or terminals. You're right, it's probably just a holdover Windowsey way of thinking. Top is good too, but for other things. The closest I get is ps -uUSER or ps x top is also good, but for other things.
