Maybe I am wrong. > Yes, there is a problem of this kind. My projector is at 800x600 but can cope with a laptop running at 1024x768. However it can't cope with a different laptop at 1600x1050. I was able to fix things partially with xrandr to change the resolution although some programs, e.g. keyjnote, didn't work.
