I'm resending this 'cause I lost my connection mid-write... If I've duped myself, sorry. So. A word of friendly advice: learn to use your package manager (apt-get, aptitude, synaptic, etc). Reinstalling is usually a last resort with debian, and is generally not necessary except in the most extreme cases of fs corruption and the like. It is certainly overkill for something like choosing a media player. And nothing prevents you from installing multiple media players. I typically have 3-4 on my machines and use them for different purposes or moods. As far as reproducing an environment, look into dpkg --get-selections, dpkg --set-selections and apt-get dselect-upgrade. A
