I'm using runlevel 3, so I went to rc3.d. I moved S23ntp to K77ntp, rebooted, and verified that there was no ntpd process. That didn't fix the problem. In the process, I found something there that seems odd: duplicate entries for each of the two VMware startup scripts, namely: K08vwware -> /etc/init.d/vmware S90vwware -> /etc/init.d/vmware and K07httpd.vwware -> /etc/init.d/httpd.vmware S91httpd.vwware -> /etc/init.d/httpd.vmware I moved all four scripts out of /etc/rc3.d entirely, and (with ntp still off) rebooted. The problem remained. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
