I have the same card and finally solved the problems.

First, remove sb from /etc/modules.  Replace it with snd-es18xx (for
this card).  Run alsaconf and alsactl.  You may also want to read my
post from yesterday:

        Subject: SOLVED Re: Sound mixing: Help configure dmix for flash, xmms,
totem or make default.
        Date: Sat, 21 Apr 2007 10:24:20 -0400
