As for experimental packages, you are also correct, but one must be careful which packages to install and it is something that is not for someone who is not familiar with the inner workings of the system because it can cause problems. For the record, I run Kernel 2.6.20.4 with KDE 3.5.6, in Sid, KDE being from experimental.
