http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=199193 Not a simple little change if you examine the script. I think that Ubuntu ran into the same problems with the Mozilla project that Debian did. I think they solved it by putting the icons back, but I don't clearly remember when they did that, or if it's done for all of the mozilla projects or not. Last I recall Thunderbird still used a brown envelope icon. Again I find myself talking about Ubuntu. Why is that? Perhaps in this case it's my fault because I mentioned it.
