Yes, you can do that. And when Feisty comes out, you'll find that your
Edgy will not get any more updates except for security issues for the
next 12 months (unless you enable backports). If you Run Sid, you don't
have to worry about that *ever* happening. There will always be new
updates and new software appearing in Sid (and things may break). They
break in Ubuntu too. (see below)

You seem to forget that Ubuntu uses snapshots of Sid. They freeze it
and then apply patches and bugfixes and (hopefully) create a stable
distribution out of it. I can tell you that it is not always stable.
There was not so long ago a xorg update to Dapper that caused X not to
run for a few days unless one knew how to manually edit the xorg.conf
file, which is something that Joe Sixpack can't do. Take away X from
the average user and they are clueless on what to do.

It looks to me like we're getting a flame war. Why can't all the Ubuntu
users go to the ubuntu forums and mailing lists and leave this list alone?

I'm getting sick of the Ubuntu vs. Debian already.

I will admit that Ian was right in saying that Ubuntu creates more
Debian users. I am one of them.
