Because if you install "etch" as "testing" today, it will give you a
nice etch install. But as soon as etch becomes stable (which will happen
Really Soon Now), testing will be a whole new release (don't even know
the codename) and you'll be facing a major upgrade.

But if you install etch as etch now, you won't even notice the
transition from testing to stable.

I assume that this is what the OP would prefer, seeing that he/she was
even considering a sarge reinstall.
