Hi Gilles, at the moment, a customized solution is the only one as it is expected use case to go 'all 32bit' or 'all 64bit' with the use of chroot where possible. What I think you may want to investiage is multi-arch support which I think some Debian developers are working on. This maybe worked on in Ubuntu also.
