The sources list for apt/aptitude and synaptic is /etc/sources.list If you add cdroms with apt-cdrom add: a line is placed at the top of your sources.list for each one. If you have an ftp/http site after that, the ftp site will be used. In other words, it reads from the first line down in order. There is nothing to stop you having entries for two sites and downloading packages from both at the same time but it is a bit wasteful. Once you don't need a source, comment it out by putting a # in the first column. Suggestion: Install from DVD's but also specify an FTP site when prompted. Once you're happy that everything works, if you # out the DVD lines then you'll get security updates and so on from the Net.
