2) I read in the wiki/bts that grub doesn't like booting from a raid
partition - but that lilo is OK. How does this work - say hda dies - how
does the boot loader get found?
I had this problem many days ago: one disk in my raid 1 array failed.
I had to install grub by hand using the live distro called
"SystemRescueCd"...it took me about 5 minutes to get the server up again...
3) This is a standard machine. That means 2x IDE bus. I see from
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Software-RAID-HOWTO-4.html that it is
recommended only to have one IDE disk per bus. So - should I go for 2
disks - and fall back to RAID 1?
This happens because it'related to ide channel...
Don't attach more than one disc to the same bus, otherwise you'll have
no benefits in your array. You risk to build a slow system...
Look for a more detailed explanation in google :)
