Actually, this was the easiest yet since I didn't have to look at irq, dma, io, etc like previously. Its just that before it was just install the right modules with the right parameters (by looking in the kernel docs) and it would work (at least for me). Now its "what all packages does this alsa stuff need to work"? If there was one package that got what was needed, ran alsaconf, gave and gave a few pointers, then all we'd need is a one line section in debian-reference (or the install manual) to get this one package.
