I don't think so. It sounds like a problem with Aptitude's internal database. Aptitude throws a wobbly if you use another package manager too. You can always check whether Aptitude is sane by running "aptitude install -sf" first, and fix it by running "aptitude keep-all" (see http://newbiedoc.berlios.de/wiki/Aptitude_-_using_together_with_Synaptic_and_Apt-get).
