Yes. Well, maybe not. I was taught modularity (i.e., "data hiding" and "loose coupling") back in my early 1980s /Introduction To COBOL I/ class, and that book was written in the 1970s. *However*, as we all know, *knowing* and *doing* are two totally different things. Linus' great genius has been *social*: an excellent programmer who has a vision (consistent userland interface, changeable kernel) and has maintained the respect of other programmers for 15 years.
