The installer picked it up as an S3 module which didn't work. I thought I'd try the 'savage' module (lspci mentioned savage) and it worked. Well in so far as it didn't bomb out with: (EE) No device detected Fatal server error: no screens found I don't know what particular savage module it was, but it had 'savage' in the list for 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86' > card, but it did not work. You sure you are using the exact same card as the > OP? OP "I am running debian testing, with an S3 video card (S3 Inc. VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266] from discover) and Xorg." Unfortunately the box is now on the other side of town. Now you got me thinking, which I should have done before I posted :-( The symptoms and those numbers - S3 Inc. VT8375 and KM266/KL266 - "rang a bell" But the "ProSavage8" hmmm ... I will get him to send me the output of lspci. -- Chris. ====== " ... the official version cannot be abandoned because the implication of rejecting it is far too disturbing: that we are subject to a government conspiracy of `X-Files' proportions and insidiousness."
