An easy way to do what you want is to add both IP addresses onto
the same physical interface. Your /etc/network/interfaces file
should now look like this:
---
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address a.b.c.d
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway a.b.c.254
auto eth0:1
iface eth0:1 inet static
address a.b.c.e
netmask 255.255.255.0
---
