I recently asked my local Debian guru the exact same question and this was his reply:
"Don't use 2.5 yet. I looked at it a few months ago when they said it was useful for normal users and it still was quite incomplete, so I didn't trust it. If you know you need it, use it, if you don't know, stay with 2.4.21, which is quite fast and has all the hardware support I've ever had need of.
