I have a PrimaScan Colorado 2400p scanner that I am attempting to run
under Sarge. I have installed xsane and made the link from the gimp
plug-in directory (ln -s /usr/bin/sane ~/.gimp2.2/plug-ins/) but when I
run the gimp and try to access the device through
File/Acquire/XSane/Device dialog and then accept the license I get a
dialog saying no devices available. The scanner is plugged in and
connected to the parallel port. Is there something else that I need to
do? I have googled for the scanner but all I find is M$ Windows drivers
and questions about its use on Windows. There was also one Mandrake
request that had gone unanswered.
Does anyone know if this scanner is SANE compatible? Has anyone managed
to get it working under linux? As far as I know the device is
functional. It worked under Windows on my laptop the last time that I
tried it, but I would like to connect it directly to the desktop box and
not have to copy stuff, especially since the laptop is old and does NOT
have an ethernet port.

What?! Look, somebody's got to have some damn perspective around here.
