Sorry, I missed your statement in your first message that you were not able to even boot. A couple other things to think about: 1. Make sure you have a current/recent version of the Debian Installer for etch (testing): http://www.us.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ 2. Make sure that you are installing the 2.6.x kernel. I believe the more recent releases of the installer for etch use 2.6 by default. But older versions of the installer still use 2.4 by default unless you invoke the command line argument linux26.
