Lorenzo, I had a similar problem following a recent testing upgrade. Only the first word of a string of text would be displayed - the rest was blank. I tracked the problem down to the Xorg nv driver. If I used the Noaccel option, the font display was fine (but far too slow). The vesa driver was also ok, but I am now using the binary driver from nvidia, which does not exhibit the problem either.
