I tried to use smartmontools on a new Dell EM64T system we have here: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/hdtest# uname -a Linux xxxxx 2.6.16-2-em64t-p4-smp #1 SMP Sun Jul 16 02:14:40 CEST 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/hdtest# smartctl -a /dev/sda smartctl version 5.36 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-6 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/
Device: ATA WDC WD800JD-75MS Version: 10.0 In Linux, SATA disks accessed via libata are only supported by smartmontools for kernel versions 2.6.15 and above. Try an additional '-d ata' argument. I'm running 2.6.16, so the message about 2.6.15 and later seems in error. Did I miss something in the release notes, or do I need to open a bug? The command *does* work with -d ata, as suggested. j -- Joshua Kugler Lead System Admin -- Senior Programmer http://www.eeinternet.com PGP Key: http://pgp.mit.edu/ ID 0xDB26D7CE PO Box 80086 -- Fairbanks, AK 99708 -- Ph: 907-456-5581 Fax: 907-456-3111 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
