I paid about $600USD for a used T-40 with 512M RAM and a 1.5 Pentium-M processor, built in IPW2100, CD-RW/DVD drive.. This was a corporate laptop, and was perfect. If I could only remember where I purchased it... Installation was pretty simple, with all the information needed found on the thinkwiki. The only complaint that I have is the placement of the speaker. I have to use a spoken interface, and if I am outside it is sometimes hard to understand what the computer is speaking to me, as the speaker is on the bottom of the machine... directly on my lap. > So my question is: is a 'low end' thinkpad worth the mark-up over what > Dell and Toshiba have on offer?
