This is my /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free deb-src http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free Use yor mirror instead. My /etc/apt/apt.conf: APT::Default-Release "unstable"; My /etc/apt/preferences Package: * Pin: release a=stable Pin-Priority: 700 Package: * Pin: release a=testing Pin-Priority: 600 Package: * Pin: release a=unstable Pin-Priority: 500 This way I always get stable packages, but testing or unstable packages if they don't exist for stable. When I want a testing package I do: aptitude install tdsodbc -ttesting and aptitude gets the package from testing trying to get the dependences from testing too. I hope this help.
