Er, no. * NEC is a giant Japanese electronics manufacturer (Nippon Electric Corp).[1] In the 80s/early-90s, they made their own (rather popular in Japan) line of not-PC-compatible computers, but AFAICS, make pretty bog-standard hardware these days (which seem to be of reasonable quality, but undistinguished in design) . I've run Debian on many NEC computers and it's always worked great (starting with a 500MHz PC of roughly the same generation that Rich is trying to use). [1] Actually they recently split into several separate companies, but all still use "NEC" as part of their names. * NCR is an American company "National Cash Register", which seems to be of rather questionable relevance lately, but they do seem to make PCs. http://www.xs4all.nl/~ganswijk/chipdir/c/n.htm -Miles -- `There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.' -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
