Maybe you have installed some non-official debs or self-compiled
programs (with checkinstall) which have dependencies that block some
crucial package. I would remove all non-Debian packages and reinstall
them after the upgrade. Long-forgotten package pins in
/etc/apt/preferences or "holds" in the dpkg selections could also screw
up the upgrade.
