Hi, Thanks a lot. The problem disappears after modifying the BIOS setting to disable the "CPU temperature warning". It seems that the booting code in the boot sector of most Linux live CDs coflicts with the stuff of BIOS code for CPU temperature monitoring and warning. Don't know in detail, but M$ CDs avoid the conflict and work well.
