I now learned how to enter shell:

$modprobe -v pcnet32
using /lib/modules/2.4.27-2-386/kerner/drivers/net/pcnet32.o
lnsmod: init module: pcnet32: no such device
modprobe: failed to load module pcnet32


card is AMD pcnet32 (windows 98 found it and tried to install, didn't 
have drivers and couldn't test)

Hopefully you can make up something.
