/etc/X11/xorg.conf

That's a good reason to save a copy before a major X upgrade.  OTOH, one
could always steal the xorg.conf from a very recent version of KNOPPIX
or KANOTIX or other friends of Debian that make live CDs after booting
it on your hardware.
