I don't know how to change this configuration. I am used to Mandriva
Linux.

Promiscuous mode means that the NIC will anser to any requisition that
reaches its interface.

If you have other devices on that LAN, this will knock them out.

It is a feature that is useful only when configuring an out-of-the-box
equipment. so, with a cross-cable you enter it by any IP and put it on
properly, disabling, then, the promiscuous mode.

Besides this is a word to be avoided anyway. :)
