I do not know whether my answer applies to your case, but you can try.
I have nvidia graphics card in my system and I had installed the nvidia
binary drivers. When x was updated, it rewrote the libglx.so file which
was a symlink to the actual file from nvidia driver. So, in xorg.conf,
the driver module was still nvidia, but 3d performance was pathetic.
Relinking solved the problem. Here is the directory on my system
