Hi I have some Dell Optiplex (500 Mhz) boxes without - CD-ROM - ability to boot from USB (no such option in BIOS).
The idea is to boot the box from floppies and use an USB stick with Debian .iso image. When booting from floppies (DISTRIB_RELEASE=3.1, installer build 20060304)- from logs: --------------------- discover: usb-uhci;;;Intel Corporation;82801AA USB; -- /proc/pci: Bus 0, device 31, function 2: /proc/pci: USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801AA USB (rev 2). /proc/pci: IRQ 11. /proc/pci: I/O at 0xff80 [0xff9f]. -- lsmod: usb-storage 54240 0 (unused) lsmod: scsi_mod 85860 1 [sd_mod usb-storage] lsmod: ide-core 91672 0 [usb-storage] lsmod: input 2848 0 [keybdev usbkbd] lsmod: usbcore 52044 0 [usb-storage usbkbd] -- /proc/ioports: ff80-ff9f : Intel Corp. 82801AA USB -- Mar 30 10:20:18 kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs Mar 30 10:20:18 kernel: usb.c: registered new driver hub Mar 30 10:20:18 kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usbkbd Mar 30 10:20:18 kernel: usbkbd.c: :USB HID Boot Protocol keyboard driver -- Mar 30 10:20:18 kernel: Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
