Maybe you switched "user name" with "real name". Can you login as root? If so 
then just do 'ls /home' in a console and you will find out how your user is 
called. If you want to create a new one just do 'adduser my_username'. Or if 
you just want to change the user's password you can do 'passwd my_user'.
