Interestingly enough, I was just looking into a similar thing yesterday. I have yet to try it out, but here's the info:
Server: Use apt-get install vcnserver to get vcnserver Run vncpassword to setup a password which will be encrypted and saved in ~/.vnc/passwd Run vncserver Client: On a linux machine, xvncviewer I read is good. Simply connect with command: xvncviewr hostname On a windoze machine, try tightvnc (you're gonna have to google this one). I believe the most recent version is 1.2.8 or 1.2.9 HTH Glen Yu | 416-739-4861 | [EMAIL PROTECTED] Modelling & Integration Research Section Science and Technology Branch Environment Canada 4906 Dufferin St., Downsview, ON, M3H 5T4 -----Original Message----- From: Mark Fletcher [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, March 10, 2006 8:13 AM To: debian-user@lists.debian.org Subject: VNC client/server combo doing VNC over HTTP Hi I'm looking for a VNC server to run on my home Debian setup that will allow me to connect to it from work. Trouble is, work is behind a (justly) paranoid corporate firewall which will allow me to connect out on HTTP/HTTPS on the usual web ports and not a lot else. So I'm looking for a solution where the server can be Debian, the client can be Windows 2000 and comms between the two can be HTTP or better HTTPS over 80/81/443/8080 etc. I stumbled over x11vnc which looks good but doesn't appear to support communicating over HTTP(s). And my searches on sourceforge etc find me products that do what I want but the server side has to be Windows. Anyone got any alternative ideas?
