Of you have no controll over DHCP/IP-Address the you will run into trouble with *NIX tools and networking. It can only be done, while installing samba on both machines and activating a share. Then you can use 'smbclient' to connect to the other machine. Note: The "smbclient" sends a broadcast message and all "sambaservers" receiving the message are responding. This is the avantage of "smb" over standard unix networking.
