For anybody that's interested, I have used a HP OfficeJet 4110 for two
years on Linux using hpoj with no problems (apart from the initial
setup, due to several factors which aren't the case now). The computer
was running Gentoo, but I am migrating that computer to Debian Sarge
today and do not expect any problems.
Given that you are having problems with USB and that the OfficeJet 4110
is connected via USB perhaps if you fix one the other will come right.
I posted several days ago about the lack of success I'm having with an
HP 5440 (regular inkjet). I have hpijs installed (the debian package),
but the HP tools can't find the printer and hence nothing works for me.
I see the printer device show up in the kernel log when I plug it into
USB. However, beyond that, I've got a paperweight, despite the fact
that this printer is supposed to work perfectly.
I have a USB mouse that works fine and I've used USB memory sticks and
synched my Palm on the same machine, so basic USB appears to work.
I'm not really sure what the next step to debugging my problem is.
Someone suggested the usblp module. I loaded that by hand and
reinstalled the printer. The usblp module will report the printer, but
there's still nothing beyond that.
It looks like you've been through the debug cycle before. Would you
have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jerry Quinn
