I logged out, used Ctrl + Alt + Backspace to reset X and logged back in. It appears to have fixed the problem! Thank you for your help. I wonder why that fixed it? Also, 'unset' isn't a command, do I use it as an option of vi? i.e. vi unset DISPLAY?
