Neither of those questions are at all relevant to the original querant's question of whether or not he *is* compromised. They tell you something about the likelihood of someone becoming compromised in the future. Put another way, if someone finds a directory on their machine they didn't create, and in it is an eggdrop bot distributing warez on IRC that they didn't install, then the question of whether or not they run a firewall is completely irrelevant to the question of whether or not they're compromised; they're compromised, firewall or no firewall.
