Note that you're not using pmud but pbbuttonsd. /dev/pmu should be automagically created by udev (though you'll need a recent kernel for that) or devfsd. If neither is running, pbbuttonsd's postinst script ought to create /dev/pmu for you (that's what pmud does, at least).
