I keep finding answers to my own questions... Further testing has determined that it's perfectly ok for IRQ 9 to be shared as it is. Running "alsamixer -V all" shows the capture settings that Kmix doesn't, so the problem is with Kmix. The Audigy card now works fine. It has so many features and special effects that it's important to turn off all settings not needed explicitely, such as EAX, or anything recorded will have strange sound effects.
