I have a Kodak 4530 that works great with Linux. The SD card can be inserted into a flash reader and seen as a vfat filesystem, and with GNOME 2.10 (and maybe 2.8, don't remember), if you connect it via the custom USB cable, when you turn the camera on, GNOME will pop up an app to allow you to preview and import photos.
