I usually do that by calling it at the end of /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh,
clearly stating in a comment that it's my local addition.

Mount an USB device you mean? You can do that by adding it to
/etc/fstab. Unless you give the option 'noauto', it will be mounted when
you boot. 'man fstab' has the details.
